The fans don't even agree on what Revan's "real" gender should be (although most people support female Revan as a backlash to SWTOR firmly establishing male Revan) More importantly, they don't agree on whether the first game's good or evil ending should be canon

What Revan represents to the player base is a cipher, to an extreme degree, and KotOR 2 was partly popular for respecting that mystery (letting you pick which Revan is canon for your playthrough at the outset)

So the reason Revan is popular is really this idea that Revan represents, which was a big shock when everyone played KotOR 1 but is something you can't really repeat the same way now (the Big Bad and the PC are one and the same)

Honestly, I consider “They should obviously make a Darth Revan show/film” a huge fucking red flag.

I find it weird to characterize “being able to build your character and decide on their personality and backstory within some parameters” as a “self insert”

Well I think the idea is that Revan’s whole thing wouldn’t have been as effective in a movie or book or linear game, we wouldn’t care they much if they were like “yeah the confused commando is a Fight Club Sith” if we weren’t projecting ourselves in them
