I don't know how much time you've spent on Grindr, but I live in a progressive city in a progressive country and I'd wager over half of the adults of my own generation and the vast majority of past generations are still in the closet. And that's just for being gay or bi/pan.

The big reason I'm given when I asked (I used to fuck around a lot) was either that they got into a marriage because it was the socially appropriate thing to do at that stage in their life and they believed they were in love, or are in love. But that isn't all of who they are.
