I genuinely love the rock, but he is hired to play very specific characters. Which is great and he is entertaining and good to watch. Bautista is definitely an actor.

And I'm not even sure if there should be a plural on "characters" for the Rock.
Still really enjoyed nearly everything I've seen him in and he's dang fun as that character, of course. But even he admits he has a very particular movie brand and doesn't waver from it. - Show replies

This looks bonkers absurd and utterly amazing I’m equal measures .. Bautista is a many levelled actor, see the Blade runner 2049 short stories

I guess that’s why The Rock won’t ever be in a Marvel movie. He’s too big of a star to be anything but one of the top characters but doesn’t really have the acting chops to lock down a Captain America or Iron Man tier role.

He’s playing Black Adam in an upcoming DC movie.

Watch in a couple decades from now The Rock isn't going to slow down acting but he'll probably do less action intensive stuff and we'll see him doing some amazing Character Acting work

I love Bautista too though and he's certainly showing more range now

Love them both in their respective roles but for some reason Bautista is just better and esp funnier with great timingpic.twitter.com/5WEPWYNtDE

I think Bautista has this hugely unfair advantage that he got several pretty dang good roles, while the rock... ...honestly, I can't think of a really solid role that he had beyond The Rundown.
