You look at Warren Ellis's notes for NEXTWAVE and it's clear that he wanted to use characters that seemed to have been consigned to the trash heap Monica Rambeau had pretty much been thrown out as a cut-rate Captain Marvel, Machine Man was written out, Elsa's book flopped (1/?)

To say nothing of the villains he used like Fin Fang Foom, the Mindless Ones, Forbush Man It was all these deep cuts that served to poke fun at the labyrinthine nature of Marvel and the sheer bottomlessness of its content I think the most prominent character was Tabitha

Anyway if MCU ever does a Nextwave I kind of hope that it copies the _ethos_ of the team instead of the presentation Throws in failed or obscure shit like Deathlok, Helstrom, Crystal, Sif, maybe Liv Tyler as Red She-Hulk The proverbial Phillips CD-i of MCU characters

this is so good but also wouldn’t the execution basically be the same thing dc is doing with peacemaker? the painfully/ironically self-aware thing is too easy to fall into.

John Cena as Peacemaker is one of James Gunn's big casting triumphs for The Suicide Squad and people responded so positively to it that even before the movie comes out they've greenlit a TV show for him on HBO Max
