This *constant fucking pattern* of TERFs suddenly discovering something *exists* as soon as a trans woman gets noticed for succeeding in it, and hastily moving in to defend their ancestral territory from invasion

Anyway this is fucking bullshit No, there is no "benefit" to being a trans woman up for a women's writing award, *especially* a trans woman who writes about "controversial themes"

Elmear MacBride's book was "controversial" but people didn't propose she get *kicked off the shortlist* because her book had "ambiguous" depictions of a protagonist who seeks out self-destructive sexual relationships and gains pleasure from them

They didn't say she fucking *wasn't a woman* because of that shit Even back in the heyday of anti-porn second-wave feminism Nancy Friday managed to become a feminist icon in 1973 by publishing a book about this shit (My Secret Garden)

Arthur probably has, but I have as well. She absolutely included a ton of rape fantasies, including a woman's traumatic discussion of her actual rape, which Friday did not flat, or indicate was any different from the rape fantasies.

"did not flag"; sorry about the typo. Friday's account there is certainly a lot less considered and a lot less self-aware than the discussion of rape fantasies in Detransition Baby. which I assume you haven't read.

and goddess forbid i get in the way of men discussing & deciding how women process sexual trauma & what representations of that are legitimate. Crack on.

I would be happy to have a conversation about why someone did or did not like the novel with anyone who isn't a TERF trying to misgender and dehumanize the author and argue that the book should be dismissed out of hand for consideration for the prize because of the author's DNA
