This may just be a me thing, but I've been disappointed by a few of the historical/contemporary fantasy books I've picked up lately because they seem to have an inexplicable Our World, But Magic Is Overt And Commonplace vibe to them, and that just ... doesn't work for me

Yeah, that's why I can't decide if it's a reversal or extension. Duane THINKS about how her Secret World Wizards interact with the rest of the unknowning mundane world, and they actively try to make it better. HP world is extremely isolationist, self-absorbed, and, yeah, stupid

If you actually try to take the world seriously it's outright infuriating that Arthur Weasley can't pronounce the word "electricity"
