there are a couple problems with wanda's moral arc but one big one is that the violence and the reasons for the violence don't link up well metaphorically.

I feel like they didn't feel the need to go into it because it's honestly a played out cliché from decades past that they revived with a twist Why Is Westview Bad? is basically the whole theme of stuff like Pleasantville and The Truman Show All the "suburban hell" shit

well, yeah, the fact that it's a cliché is part of why I don't find it super resonant. but again, what does that have to do with wanda's grief? and if we're talking abt the evils fo white suburbia and american conformity, having it imposed by an immigrant who's sort of Roma...

because what it actually plugs into there is like invasion of the body snatchers stuff with foreign mind controlling invaders corrupting the american heartland or some such. esp. with her linked to witches, Roma,and (sort of) Jewish people.
