That's HOW you get the world that looks vaguely like Comics Earth, with superheroes and supervillains and powerful local communities and agency and supertech...all seething under & in opposition to a "normalcy" that works like ours despite no reason to do so.

this is an actually good and novel comic book deconstruction, thank you

I mean this is a literal SCP canon (a rather common one, even, on the site's many canons). The Foundation is perfectly aware that the world doesn't work anything like the conventional "normalcy" they uphold. They're ABSURDLY more advanced technologically & thaumaturgically.

The Foundation is full of sorcerers, scientists and historians who are totally aware of the actual shape of the world only having a vague correspondence to the norm - and interact with entire anomalous communities, even. They're just invested in perpetuating a comforting lie.

The more optimistic want to delay it until society is ready; the cynical just want to perpetuate the current norms forever, but in either case they are *aggressively* involved in the perpetuation of our illusory status quo bc the alternative would be culturally transformative.

So you have this whole seething underbelly of "how the world actually works" urban fantasy, full of entire cultures and communities, that the Foundation is aggressively invested in keeping secret. And even supertech that they understand but do not popularize.

One of the most absurd and ominous SCPs is literally an entire vast cloning facility, built from "understood" technology, which has cloned the ENTIRE NON-ANOMALOUS POPULATION OF EARTH, multiple times, and basically "reset" recorded history from a save point an unknown # of times

And by the same token, the simple *existence* of Thor or Doctor Strange immediately shoots a gigantic burning wound in the very foundation of the "modern Enlightenment egalitarian world" of science, capitalism & rationalism.

To say nothing of, say, Asgardian technology - Asgard transparently lives in conditions of material abundance, and Thor's a generous guy; he would absolutely be willing to share some of that stuff with Earth to improve life for folks.

Dark World opens up with the implication that aside from Midgard the rest of the realms are entirely dependent on Asgard and have descended into chaos during the year they spent rebuilding the Bifrost.

Yeah in this context Midgard is basically a Lost Colony -- for whatever reason contact via Bifrost with Earth was cut off in the Middle Ages and that's why the Norse gods receded into myth

Asgard's "empire" seems more like "a sphere of influence" under the principle of "we needed wars to make our warrior aristocrats' names, and don't make us come over there." War trophies don't fuel an economy.

My head canon is that sometime after the Teseract was hidden with Odin’s worshipers Wakanda, Kamar Taj, Attila, K’un L’un and any other ancient hidden super people stepped up and politely asked Odin to fuck off. Now trying to be all peaceful Odin complied.

Just because there seems to be a lot of hidden people who could step to the alien gods on Earth for some reason.
