Like, (a) the fact that she watched Friday "20 times" is fucking unbelievable because that movie is on a burn so slow it's like a lit match under a swimming pool, but (b) Mrs. Voorhees is not a blink-and-miss-it thing!! It's a pretty major part of the movie!!

Also, Jason Voorhees lore is fucking banana-nut-bread, like, if you look up ANYTHING about the series lore it's suddenly Necronomicon and Magic Knives, which is disorienting when the first movie is a pretty down-to-earth slasher.

Like, this was me googling why Jason has an adult body if he drowned as a kid: (Source: https://www.quora.com/Since-Jason-Vorhees-was-a-kid-when-he-drowned-how-did-he-end-up-as-an-adult-when-he-showed-up-in-part-2#:~:text=Even%20in%20his%20pseudo%2Dundead,grew%20up%20into%20an%20adult.&text=This%20is%20why%20jason%20is,as%20he%20was%20growing%20up …. )pic.twitter.com/uBPq3NiAya

Movie 1: This grief-stricken mother is making bad life choices, as one sometimes does in the grips of grief. Movie 37: She's also secretly a necromantic priestess in possession of multiple rare mystical artifacts.

Anyway, I have now seen Friday the 13th and Jason X (we skipped the 47 movies in between) and I have to say that a killer who has no...."moral code", for lack of a better word, is boring.

I really thought the camp counselor who was willing to go out into the rain because she heard a child calling for help would be spared--because, by Mrs. Voorhees' logic, that would be "good" counselor behavior--but she was killed too and that's boring?

I have a LOT of issues with how the Hannibal fandom woobies Hannibal into some kind of hero (HE IS NOT) but it's surely objectively true that a killer who spares some people because they pass a "test", no matter how arbitrary!, is more interesting than someone who kills everyone.

Killers who have an internalized moral code--again, no matter how arbitrary or fucked up--are more interesting because there's a possibility a character might survive. If everyone is dead no matter what, it's dull and flat-noted.

Yeah the middle movies that you missed have a lot more survivors strategically appealing to Jason's psychology in a way you might find more interesting

I *did* see that in part 2 someone tries to impersonate his mother, which is clever and very ballsy.

Yeah I do think if you liked the OG Friday the 13th then Pt. II and III are worth seeing The series does go downhill pretty fast though

I do unqualifiedly recommend the other three Scream movies though, including the controversial Scream 4 I think the consensus of most fans is that Scream 2 is actually the best one

For F13, I'd recommend 2-4, then skip to 7 and stop there. I think Scream 3 is the only 'bad' Scream, but I think it would probably still be top tier amongst other horror franchises, comparatively.
