This is why I feel like the key to Cap working at all is that he started out weak, small, and bullied, and what he got out of that experience was not a desire for revenge or power, but a deep need to protect people from bullies

"I *must* win, because I *am* right, because I'm *me*, by definition" Utterly incapable of confronting error or weakness -- the mere possibility simply does not compute
-
Walker cannot imagine going down nobly for a cause, nor can he imagine willfully abandoning his cause Either one is just unacceptable (Which is why he is completely incapable of processing grief in anything close to a healthy manner, when he experiences it the first time)

hence this i think very deliberate pair of images walker behind the shield, except unlike cap, with this huge gun pointing out from behind it and then that same shield, spattered with the blood of a murdered manpic.twitter.com/3u7ZCRS0le

Oh yeah, that first image when he comes into the building, it's almost as if he is cowering behind the shield and sticking his pistol out. It *felt* deliberate
