It’s still impressive how misleading early press was.

“Super soldiers go against everything he believes in” is a pretty silly line out of context. Or in context

Why do we have zemo as the one who keeps talking about the Black experience? I guess it’s supposed to be cute?

It is. Sam is visibly offended by it. Zemo is whitesplaining. That's the joke. Also MCU Zemo is not Hydra, but still... "that guy who conspired to have Tony and Steve kill each other"

To continue to try to be fair, this version of Zemo is not only not HYDRA, he loathes HYDRA (for the selfish reason that he hates superhumans and HYDRA brought the first known one in modern times into the world, the Red Skull)

They don't really go into it in terms of real world politics but his little rant about how much he despises superheroes as a concept that's inherently toxic to society indicates he's no friend to Nazi master race shit

right...but he's also hydra-y. it's not clear they've thought it through that clearly.

so the pro immigrant multiracial force using the supersoldier serum are the eugenicists...? it all seems somewhat garbled.

There's no actual Nazis in this story, unfortunately, they went with the "moral ambiguity" angle The Flag-Smashers aren't "pro-superhuman" in any sense, just using the serum as a desperate means to an end, and Zemo doesn't really give a shit about stopping them

The most HYDRA character was the evil scientist in the shipping container and Zemo unceremoniously caps him before they can finish the interrogation because he just wants him dead
