Anyone, TERF or not, who uses the phrase "just adopt" does not know what they are talking about and should shut the fuck up "Just adopt" is a telltale phrase of someone who wants a dismissive gotcha argument and has NEVER actually researched adoptionhttps://twitter.com/Slatzism/status/1379119773758423043 …

I think surrogacy is inherently exploitative. But it's true that private adoption is exactly the same. International adoption honestly seems even worse. Adoption through foster care is a fundamentally different concept and no one should do it if they don't want to specifically

As an infertile trans woman, I think people don't have a right to have children. If they don't want to foster care, then they probably shouldn't have kids. I don't see an ethical alternative. It's sad but it is what it is

Well look, I think it's possible to mitigate the exploitative aspects of surrogacy as much as possible Altruistic surrogacy by a loved one is as non-exploitative as you can get, and has no equivalent in terms of adoption

I get why people are uncomfortable about the idea but it seems to me that if this general concept is *ever* okay then it's only okay if it's as voluntary on the part of the surrogate as possible, which ideally means the decision to create the child is part of the process

The "Just adopt!" people seem to take this opposite view - that it's only ethical to ever conceive a child with the intention of the bio parents raising them, and therefore only ever ethical to "take" a child under conditions of tragic loss This seems backwards to me
