My parent's justification was that children are too stupid to be reasoned with and only understand pain, like dogs. I am glad that they don't keep dogs any more, too.

I think a lot of people do it because that's how they were raised. I broke that cycle with my kids. There's no need for corporal punishment if you're imaginative with your consequences.

Some dude in the replies if going to war as a pro-kid beater. How broken is your mind when that's how you spend your time?

It boggles my mind how anyone can recognize that one adult hitting another is wrong yet still think it's okay for them to hit someone a fraction of their size.

The reason it's okay to hit kids but not adults is always, ALWAYS "Because adults have many more ways to retaliate"
-
It's the same reason "It's okay to hit women but not men" was a commonly held stance until relatively recently and "It's okay to hit your apprentice/manservant" was widely accepted until labor unions started shifting somewhat the balance of power.

Kids are "resilient" because their bodies are more flexible and their bones heal easier so the random injuries affiliated with being a child aren't as debilitating; that doesn't really protect against the emotional trauma of someone who says they love you hitting you.

CW: Child abuse For a lot of abusers, I think it's mainly b/c kids are smaller and can't fight back. When I was 17, I briefly came into contact with the relative who'd abused me when I was younger. One day she picked a fight with me, and seemed to be working herself into a rage.

CW: Child abuse This was how she'd used to set the stage for beating me. That day, I just looked at her and said, "I'm not a little girl anymore. If you hit me, I'll knock you down." Funnily enough, that calmed her right down.
