The Legend of Joss that he built up in his own mind and among his fanbase is that he's a Serious Fucking Genius who was held back for the whole first part of his career (before the Buffy TV show) as an unsung writer whose work was butchered by ungrateful idiots

He'd get really unprofessional and just talk shit about how movies he wrote were ruined by directors - and, especially, actors - who just didn't get it

Bryan Singer let Halle Berry X-Men 1 by not playing Storm right Fran Kuzui let Donald Sutherland ruin the Buffy movie by walking all over the script Jean-Pierre Jeunet ruined Alien Resurrection by getting Sigourney Weaver back and letting her steal the show Etc, etc

So as soon as Joss gets to sit in the director chair himself he makes it really clear he will not be letting anyone ruin anything because he is the capital-A Auteur That cringey story of making everyone chant "Joss is the Boss, Joss is the Boss" on Firefly

Even directors I like I read stories of them being dictatorial in some way. That's the job. Were only getting these stories now because his Justice League failed. If TITANIC had flopped you know we'd be getting stories about what an ass Cameron was from Kate and Leo.

The mistake WB made was bringing in Joss to just add humor. That's not what Joss' strength is. Lots of people can write jokes. His strength is character conflict. It's what the movies that came after made by other people have built on. The WB instead wanted the team to get along.

No, that shit is irrelevant Maybe the only reason people listened to Ray Fisher is that they hated the movie but Ray Fisher was having his agent complain directly to the studio before the movie Because this shit is not normal and it should not be normal

The idea that every director runs down actors on set and makes passive-aggressive racist remarks and gets in such huge petty fights actors have to call their agents for backup after walking off set is bullshit It's not actually normal and to the extent it is it needs to stop

As Zack Snyder's fans rightfully pointed out, if every director who gets results acts like this then why aren't there any similar stories from Snyder's original shoot Why did Ray Fisher wait until Whedon showed up to suddenly get "temperamental"

I've heard a fuckton of criticism about James Cameron as a director and as a human being but nothing that rises to the level of this passive-aggressive war Whedon had with Fisher browbeating him into reading lines he clearly thought were racist and demeaning

If there is such a story, then I want to hear it Just like if there were a story about some kind of incident between him and a teenage star where her reps banned him from ever being alone with her again I want to hear that
