Maybe this is because I imprinted on the old Superfriends cartoon rather than Teen Titans Go! Where he was in fact mostly the grumpy reluctant hero, because, well, he'd already had a horrible accident where half his body was destroyed

Seriously look at how much of Cyborg's body is cybernetic It's not even half it's more like 70% Even years later I don't think I'd be the life of the party either

I mean yeah Teen Titans Go! is the longest-lived most financially successful version of the character but that show... sucks

Like even if you're a fan of that show The POINT of the show is that it sucks That's the joke, that's where all the humor comes from, that it's a completely stupid waste of these characters It's the whole theme of the Teen Titans Go! movie

The "Doom Patrol" version of the character steers into this, exploring his trauma extensively while also having him repeatedly state to everyone else that he absolutely does not have a catchphrase.

The character's whole journey is so weird. Mildly popular Teen Titans member, was homogenized into a comedy character for the cartoon and became much more popular, and then was randomly separated from the team that made him famous and put on the Justice League as a headliner.
