I legitimately think it's one of the most terrible children's films of all time

That’s cool. I think Ferris Bueller is a film about an insufferable sociopath who hurts and manipulates everyone around him for his own amusement and treats them like props, but I also don’t think anyone who enjoys it is a bad person or endorsing that behavior.

I mean sure I don't care who watches something, I just care whether something is textually bad, and THE INCREDIBLES is worse than either that movie or FIGHT CLUB in terms of what cause it most elegantly functions as propaganda for

THE INCREDIBLES is nakedly "some people are just superior and trying to raise others to their level is bad". FIGHT CLUB, well...I feel like I'm missing something there. Everything about the Narrator's malaise feels so melodramatic to me that the movie comes across as farcical.

The movie is meant to satirize toxic masculinity and winds up making it look pretty cool

Isn’t there a quote where Palahniuk explicitly says it’s not about that

about what

That fight club is about toxic masculinity. I looked and I might have been mistakenly remembering him saying he doesn’t think it’s a real thing?pic.twitter.com/RgwL4Hb2Lu

I mean it's about something in that ballpark, surely

Pahlaniuk isn't really as clearheaded an ideologue as a lot of people want him to be on this stuff and arguably Fight Club wouldn't have been as compelling if he were Like I don't think he himself is clear on whether Tyler's plan was Good Actually

Irl he was a member of the Ruckus Society, an anarchist direct action org, and he made up Project Mayhem as this exaggerated morally ambiguous version of it

Let's be real: Fight Club is as much about Palahniuk not being OK with being gay as much as it's about anything else

Like I have literally sat next to him and looked him in the eye and watched his entire demeanor change in the moment I said the word "gay" he is still so obviously ambivalent about it
