I do think it's kind of funny how the Debate Bros on Twitter have completely conflated the legal concept of "defamation" with the debate team concept of "ad hominem" The latter is not in any sense illegal Calling Jesse Singal a "creep" because you find him creepy is free speech
The idea of trying to prove defamation in a court of law by setting up some neutral scientific process to determine whether he is objectively creepy is this ridiculous bad joke But he seems to actually think such a thing is possible
Funnily enough, Julia Serano anticipated him on this and tried to actually try to do something like this to ward off his accusations Being all self-doubting and setting up a reader poll "Am I imagining this or is the way he talked down to me here really sexist"
Which seemed to only piss off his fans even more True creepiness can be objectively detected within a speech act on its own merits via the laboratory of reason Argumentum ad populum is a FALLACY
