The fans ended up deciding Obama was elected in 2008 but ended up a one-termer because of a public backlash blaming him for the crisis in New York in Avengers 1, electing moderate Republican Matthew Ellis on a "law-and-order" platform

Yeah that’s why I hate “the blip.” It’s so large it’s hard to handwave. Even for superhero stuff.
-
I mean... FWIW running background-premise to this current most-recent series is basically "Less handwave, more gigantic series of predictably-brutal shock-doctrine tactics to force 'normal' back into place that we didn't see yet because most of our characters are upper/midclass..

I might have just filled in the gap to make sense of it, but I got the impression that there were major efforts to condense the population together to be able to use existing infrastructure at pre-blip population density for those areas, which wouldn't change quite so much

Although there'd be a lot of ghost towns and a lot of areas where fusion cultures would have formed and become much more prominent still. Boswash would probably be mostly the same save for accent changes.

I'm just glad we got lucky and Thanos missed all the people responsible for maintaining our infrastructure, particular all the nuclear power stations out there.

The US government explicitly has continuity in place for a mass extinction event how it would play out in reality is another matter same for the internet etc. Going to be some weird gaps in institutional knowledge though. lots of stuff only 1/2 people on earth can do *poof*

Inheritance and property ownership would be another nightmare half of the property on earth just became someone elses and are they coming back for it. There must be just fields of cars rusting away all over America.
