Something that annoys me about biozombie fiction is when zombies aren't depicted behaving in ways you know they naturally would Like if your zombie needs to eat, then zombies should also be able to starve to death, a sealed vault full of clickers should eventually just die

Walking Dead aren't biozombies, arguably. Everybody becomes a zombie no matter what. It's basically Dark Souls.

Yeah the creator of TWD said that in his mind originally there's nothing "special" about being bitten by a zombie, it's just that their mouths are filthy and cause death by mundane infection There's no "zombie virus", zombies are just how death works now in this world

He was very against the idea of ever giving an explanation for the walkers - he said he came up with one if the suits insisted (it's something incomprehensibly powerful aliens did to clear out the Earth for colonization eventually, like The Screwfly Solution)

But he's glad they never made him use it, and the aliens would never have shown up onstage at all, it would've been this Lovecraftian hopelessness thing (Can mosquitoes who've been sprayed by a sterilizing agent track down the humans who did it and force them to cure it)

Yeah WORLD WAR Z had that whole thing where a guy thought he was going to die when he got bit by a zombie but then it turned out when the "zombie's" blood pooled around him that it was just some living crazy guy But then the guy almost died anyway because human mouths are nasty

Yeah that’s Romero Rules Zombies: all deaths are zombie deaths, but zombie bites cause an invariably lethal infection. It’s not narratively interesting, IMO.

TWD contradicted him on this later anyway, in that zombie bites clearly aren't just *mundanely* infectious It's a plot point in the games that Columbine needs to prove she has a dog bite and not a walker bite because the former can be treated by antibiotics and the latter can't

In the Ex-Heroes series by Peter Clines there is a zombie virus-and it’s airborn and everybody is already infected, but it won’t do anything until the body dies. Zombie bites are fatal because of all the other infectious things in the human mouth

Yeah the initial reaction in TWD to people finding out that *everyone* who dies turns regardless of whether they were bitten is "We're all already infected?" Which, sure, could be true, depending on how you look at it (no DNA sequencers left in this world to confirm)
