You notice Christians don't talk about how the reason there's a day in between Good Friday and Easter Sunday is Jesus is Jewish and spent the Sabbath chilling inside his grave like you're supposed to

Yes as far as I know it's mostly derived from a passing reference in 1 Peter that christ "preached to the spirits who were in prison" and ppl were like oh obviously that means HELL
-
That, but much more - "he descended into Hell" in the Creed, and people thinking, would Jesus go to Hell and leave it unchanged? And in the OT, when God is found all the way in Sheol, etc.

What I’m getting out of this thread is we invent details to make as much sense out of it as we can because the truth is a mystery.

In the Book of Common Prayer (Episcopal) we have "he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again" in the N Creed & "descended to the dead" in the Apostle's Creed

Yeah, I have a whole fun (for me) little tirade I can go on regarding death, the grave, Sheol, Hades, Gehenna, and Hell :)
