I've liked JS before this whole controversy. I've gone through the muck trying to find what is actually transphobic about anything he's written, but I cant find it. I get that he attracts some transphobes to his mentions; but do you have anything you can point to that is bigoted?

(This endless call for receipts is what led Noah Berlatsky to go to all the effort of making a "Jesse Singal resource page", which, of course, accomplished little but getting him smeared as "obsessive" But here it is: https://www.patreon.com/posts/jesse-singal-20353892 …)

It still seems focused on the Atlantic article and reactions to it -- which isn't evidence of bigotry. The article is evidence of ignorance at worst. I hope you all find the hard evidence of bigotry you are so desperate to find. It's just not resonating with a nobody like me.

I don't care about this theoretical difference between "bigotry" and "ignorance", it's like the least important thing in the world "Is this guy intentionally committing vehicular homicide or does he keep getting behind the wheel drunk"

this whole argument is about the problem of putting words into others' mouths. yet, here are more quotation marks and words someone never said. nice intellectual trend you have going here, trivia guy.

Yes, "putting words in other people's mouths", i.e. reading the words someone says and getting mad at them for being bad when the person *intended* to say something good

The words in the quote marks weren't even intended to describe your position, dude, they're just an analogy for how dumb this whole general genre of argument is "Bigotry" and "ignorance" amount to the same thing and should be treated the same way, most of the time

I can see the argument for "with ignorance, attempt to educate first" but we're passed that point. He's been told again and again and again all the problems with his transphobic articles and he just doubles down. It's well passed ignorance now and straight into bigotry.

You can claim, "The article was written when he was ignorant!" In which case, as someone made aware of his ignorance since, you can point me to the fact that it was taken down and to where he has uploaded a correction article addressing his mistakes. As a bare minimum.

The Atlantic ran a whole series of responses to his article in the next issue and he has the fucking gall to say "Yeah but no one's REALLY responded with any SUBSTANTIVE critiques"

You can tell when an essay on trans people will meet Singal's definition of seriousness: it will go to great lengths to avoid quoting or citing trans people.

Let alone being written by trans people!
