I studied psychology (didn't go into the field, I don't have the right temperament for academic or clinical psychology) and one of the best things the program head said was that if you assume you automatically know best, you probably don't.

The second best thing she said was that the DSM-V is a useful tool, but it kind of sucks and there's a lot of garbage in it. The important thing is not to try and fix people to your standards, it's to help them learn the tools *they* need for their own situation.

All that said, since we're currently stuck with this system, I'm glad there are a fair number of decent insinuating themselves into designated gatekeeper roles so they can try to mitigate some of the harms of the system.

Yeah, but the next item on the TERF agenda is to purge the medical establishment of "groomers" so we'll see what lies ahead (It's really neat, this rhetorical trick of just flat-out stating providing affirming care is child abuse and should be treated the same way)
