I'm a Christian who has celebrated Passover before, but we didn't actually *change* it and do things that are specifically forbidden.

Even if one takes the New Testament at face value, didn't Jesus _instruct_ Judas to sell him out to the Romans so that he could do his faux-sacrifice ritual?
-
No, not really. He does in the Gospel of Judas, but that’s always been apocrypha rather than canon.

Historians generally think that there was a historical Jesus. What he was in the first century and what he became as a figure of religious devotion are vastly different things. It's not a matter of belief, it's a matter of research and attention to surviving contemporary texts.

I’m not a professional classical historian so grain of salt: my impression is that your statement is true, but “generally” is doing a lot of heavy lifting given that (1) there are historians who disagree and (2) the general consensus has been heavily biased by Christian culture.
