Especially because the number of people with the money to make an active choice for themselves about what stove to use is so relatively low The vast majority of gas stove users just inherited one from the past homeowner or their landlordhttps://twitter.com/nberlat/status/1375931892726370310 …

Again, individual shaming about these choices is mostly pointless in terms of actual environmental change. You need regulations and to get builders to change what they install (or landlords to upgrade.) sooo...basically the tweet is a culture/identity performance. https://twitter.com/MattBruenig/status/1375473405366050820 … pic.twitter.com/XmsdZQ82JA

right, and if you run a restaurant or whatever some stuff really does need to be cooked over gas. Its not at all analogous to something completely useless and counterproductive like rolling coal.

It cooks better, though I do actually prefer an electric oven for heat consistency, for a cooktop it's gas all the way until they invent something better.

Also until we live in a world with more renewables i dont really see the fundamental difference between the two. My state gets its electricity mostly from fossil fuels still. There are much larger factors at play than whether or not a person wants to use a gas stove.

Where does he think electrify comes from?! Kites? Gas. Coal. Nukes. ............................Renewables.

I've seen later tweets where he argues that renewables will be much more prevalent soon, so if you're replacing a range now, it's important to switch to electric. But pushing for "clean cooking energy" is like treating a patient in cardiac arrest by giving them a manicure.

This debate doesn’t make sense as we still don’t get enough electricity from green/renewable sources. Plus as an HVAC contractor who installs gas and electric equipment stoves are well behind boilers/furnaces and water heaters in btus output.

It's because stoves are a "wedge issue" -- most people don't have that much of an opinion about whether their water heater or furnace is electric or gas as long as it works okay, but the difference between gas and electric stoves is something people directly experience

I chose my gas stove. But this is definitely a case of let's try to find the least consequential problem. When transit mode share exceeds 50% in Houston, I'll buy an electric induction stove.

Even just in terms of personal homeowner choices, replacing a gas furnace with an electric heat pump does a lot more

my house is new but I have gas because it was the only option for the build 🤷🏾‍♀️ only truly rich people are out here buying gourmet gas ranges. So he’s yelling at his class peers for clout? lmao
