It's kind of hilarious how he describes people everyone hates being widely attacked as a "tactic" carried out by some kind of sinister puppetmasters instead of just being... what happenshttps://twitter.com/ggreenwald/status/1375079174440955912 …

Just as the current epidemic of online censorship began with the age-old tactic of targeting someone widely disliked (Milo, then Alex Jones), these censors are trying to create a censorship precedent for Substack by forcing them to boot one bad writer, then expand from there: https://twitter.com/jessesingal/status/1375078276444590088 …

90% of the people who quote the Martin Niemoller "First they came for..." poem don't even know it starts with "First they came for the Communists" Most of the remaining 10% think the point of it is that "Communists" are the worst people in the world no one would normally defend

I mean, that was Niemoller (a conservative Lutheran)'s original attitude But, you know, I would argue the point of the poem should be reconsidering that (or at least it should be, otherwise it's fucking stupid)

The poem only makes sense if the escalation of who "they" "come for" has some kind of moral dimension to it, some element of "I thought the Communists were just crazy people but they had a point all along" Otherwise you make it a general argument against anyone doing anything

People turning the poem into "First they came for the Nazis" when the "they" in the poem IS THE NAZIS and the thing the poem is complaining about is people NOT coming for the Nazis when they had a chance
