If you said some *specific phenomenon* could be attributed to social contagion then yes, you would be saying that

If I said "People dyeing their hair bright colors is a result of social contagion among schoolchildren" then I would be saying people with brightly colored hair "were a contagion", by any reasonable understanding of that language

Which would be, in fact, a shitty thing to say But not nearly as consequential a thing to say as saying it about being trans, because hair color is much less central to identity than gender, and because there isn't already a deeply ingrained societal hatred of dyed hair

What is the effective difference between saying trans people are contagion and people are becoming trans is a contagion? Both portray being trans as a sickness on society.

I know right Either way, it's saying that if you want to keep your kid from being trans, you'd better keep them away from other trans people It's not even arguing about a word, it's arguing about the *grammatical function* of the word

"I'm not saying you ARE a contagion, I'm saying you are AFFECTED by a contagion that you then TRANSMIT to others" Shut the fuck up Seriously

And it's not just an implication that Jesse 1) believes that keeping kids away from trans stuff online will stop them from wanting to transition, 2) believes this is a worthy goal He *actually defends parents who do this*

You're fucking putting the cart before the horse, here, our negative opinion of Jesse is because he defends the parents from 4thWaveNow and hangs out with them and treats them as decent people trying their best and shit

I judge the motives behind the words he uses based on his actions and the consequences they've had, not vice versa
