Because you're not touching it despite the fact that I keep bringing it up. Why isn't it benign and normalised to refer to queerness as contagious nowadays, when it used to be explicitly used to emphasise the potential danger to children?

Not "if". Where is that rhetoric. You acknowledge that the concept of gay contagion existed in the past, you acknowledge it led to legislation like Section 28 on the basis that any exposure to queerness could result in them being infected with gay.

Where is that rhetoric today. What happened to it. Why did it stop.

Do you acknowledge the rhetoric used back then emphasised a contagion model of homosexuality, that this was emphasised as a harmful and/or negative consequence, and legislation was subsequently created to cut off vectors of contagion?

The phrase "social contagion" if used completely "neutrally" is an utterly pointless and vacuous term, meaning only "people are generally influenced by other people" This is why, in practice, it is not actually used this way, and why semantics matter (critical theory 101)

This is similarly why the word "meme" as a simple synonym for the word "idea" never really took off and the pop-culture meaning it did take on was very different (one that inherently connoted something frivolous, bizarre and that spreads for irrational reasons)
