Jesse chose to use the language of disease to refer to a concept that can’t exist outside of the people who embody it. so either he is too stupid and careless to realize the impact this would have, or he’s smart and chose it purposely to scaremonger

Part of the obvious problem with trying to claim the term "social contagion" is "neutral" is that it's basically never used to describe behaviors the speaker thinks are rational/normal or beliefs the speaker thinks are correct
-
So they talk about it like there's such a thing as an "absence of social contagion" when obviously there isn't The Satanic Panic being a social contagion that "surged and receded" in the 80s As opposed to being overtaken by a second, more powerful contagion

When you define something that someone thinks of as intrinsic to their identity as a "contagion" that's what "calling the person a contagion" means In fact it couldn't possibly mean anything else, it's the ONLY WAY to "call a person a contagion"

Arthur, I hope you do write a paper on TERFism as a social contagion, and I'm really sad to say it would be pretty timely
