It's actually really obnoxious when people play this kind of card as a gotcha -- trans people MUST be rare, it's a RULE that they be rare, and they must not only be rare but normally distributed throughout the population, by lottery Anything else is sinister

The actual point you're making here, that it MUST be the result of a mother MAKING her kids trans and that this constitutes some kind of abuse, is disgusting In and of itself, it is a transphobic sentiment

I dunno how to get this across if you don't get it Wanting trans people to be rare, thinking that it's a law of nature that there's a limit to how many trans people you can have and more than that is a "red flag", IS ANTI-TRANS

Being trans, going through transition, is hard. It can't be made easy, it's really difficult. Dilating a neovagina is painful. Vaginal atrophy is painful. I'd like transition to be safe, legal and rare. It's necessary for some, but there are better ways to manage dysphoria.

Yes, you're anti-trans and you rationalize it as compassion, we know

The incredibly shitty thing about this is that she's on the side of people in favor of transmed gatekeeping Like shit if you're actually that concerned about the side effects of GRS maybe help us try to take down laws requiring GRS for social transition

Has it occurred to you that "gatekeeping" may be in the interest of the patient? Or are you in favor of throwing open the whole Rx medicine cabinet and letting everyone diagnose, self-prescribe and dose themselves via the internet? Do you think medicine is only helpful?

I'm not an absolutist on the matter but I'm actually pretty radically in favor of drug deregulation yes

Right now the system is biased incredibly strongly against trusting the patient and in favor of doctors being little tinpot tyrants over people in their care and I'd like to see a little more balance

Especially when dealing with populations that, like trans people, we know have been systematically denigrated and infantilized over the years by medical professionals who let moralizing color their mindset Easing off on policing psych meds as controlled substances would be nice

We've talked at length before, I think, about the cartoonish catch-22 of requiring numerous bureaucratic hoops to access stimulants to treat ADHD, a condition defined by difficulty meeting bureaucratic obligations

*waves hand* Trans and also a Neuro PhD who did his diss on addictive drugs. Aligned with Arthur on both of these, and pretty confident most folks I went to grad school with would be as well

Well I've been to grad school in a related field. But I can't know if I agree or not because as far as I can tell, I've been blocked. Sorry.
