One of my colleagues used to say that the ADA is not a building code; it's civil rights legislation. We all need to remember that.
I agree about emphasizing that the ADA is civil rights legislation, but I am not sure I agree that building codes aren't - cf. above about every regulation being written in blood.
It would shut down most of the neighborhood and building anything in Boston is a fucking nightmare but it is doable. ADA compliance in a city with as many hospitals and schools as we do is vital to the economy and urban development
I disagree with you. Aesthetics is worth more than you know. The good, the true, and the beautiful. I’m not against accessibility. It’s good. But the current way, IMO, misses the mark and creates dead space and dead structure. I think it’s equally destructive.
