I love this argument, it's amazing "Sure, Bitcoin is itself a tremendous waste of resources, but have you considered it will also SAVE immense resources by causing a global economic recession and sending you back to a simple village life"

Okay so put your money where your mouth is then Log off, sell all your electronic shit and put the money into BTC mining stock, roll up your sleeves and go outside and start tilling those fields for planting season You're gonna need the practice

Lol I can't believe you don't see the perversity here that if everything works out as you want it to the planet will NOT be saved because society's total energy output will still have to go up to feed the demand for Bitcoin mining

It's literally the worst of both worlds - climate change and fossil fuel consumption continuing to accelerate but I don't even get to use any of that power to watch TV It's like some ironic planet from Star Trek

I had to have a long, long think and I finally realize that he's claiming Bitcoin stops plastic consumption by making people not want to spend money, which is absolutely spectacular.

Like every single time they're interviewing a person who randomly made a million dollars with Bitcoin on the news, what did that person do? THEY BOUGHT A NEW CAR AND A HOUSE. It's money. You spend it.

You obviously never owned bitcoin. Bitcoin only increases in value, it doesn't make sense to spend it. The opposite is true for fiat money. Why do you think central banks around the world desperately try to create inflation? This is explicitly meant to *increase* consumption.

I'm sorry, if I had a million dollars, I would move away from my slumlord and buy a nice house in Squirrel Hill ASAP. Even if I was gonna have two million tomorrow. I wouldn't spend all of it but at least half.

Right, whoever has actual pressing financial needs gets punished for their "high time preference" and whoever is already happy and comfortable gets rewarded for their "low time preference" Rich get richer poor get poorer

I'm sick of having to bring this up all the time but this is literally why the poor in the past *actively fought for inflationary currency* To the point of riots and shit "Bimetallism" in the 1900s is just a word of being pro-inflation

Honestly the fact that all anyone talks about in regards to BitCoin value is what it’s worth in USD should give the game away all on its own.

And pretending that if everyone just sits on their bitcoin forever, the value will go up and up and literally nothing will go wrong with this plan ever again.
