"Guys, it's still barely a movie at 4 hours and the only un-ironically good film to spin out of the project couldn't last ONE sequel before falling apart. We're waving the white flag here. This is why I loved Shazam! so much, the whole middle part of the movie that's just Billy and Freddy irresponsibly fucking around testing out his powers It's far from the first time a movie had a scene like that but I didn't realize how much I'd missed it

This kinda energy is why I feel like "Flash and Substance" from Justice League Unlimited is one of the best pieces of superhero fiction I've seen. The whole thing has this intensely positive vibe.

DC feeling that they need to be Very Serious to compete with Marvel is a conceit that they've burdened themselves with on-and-off for a long time, even in the comics.

Superman was written as wish-fulfillment fantasy, someone strong enough, brace enough, good enough, and unstoppable, who would right wrongs and protect those who needed it. Any approach that treats that as a curse 1. has no understanding of the character, & 2. is doomed to fail.
