idk what they teach you in ireland, but one's supposed to do more than that. like, the penance is the easiest part, and one is expected to atone for what they did and work on not repeating it. (i haven't been a catholic for a while, but i don't think things changed that much)

I mean, you've been around long enough to spot what organised Irish Catholicism is like. Bruenig's response is downright *excessive* compared to our lot...

at least the organizational parts of it, yeah.

Bruenig is a white evangelical from Texas who converted to Catholicism as a result of her big brained "exploration of mysticism" in college It's really awful, it's this All Your Powers Combined situation (Catholic + fundie + college hippie)

She is also a Marxist. The NYTimes said 'we need an former evangelical Christian turned Catholic who is also a Marxist because that voice is so gravely underrepresented in NY and beyond' -- lmao.

For a Marxist she seems to only ever attract my attention for being shit about the LGBT spectrum and opinions on popping out all the kids.

She is very clearly not a "Marxist" and it's pretty clear she doesn't support liberation theology or anything like that either She's a conservative Catholic who wants healthcare

She is definitely on that Marxist-Leninist spectrum --https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/its-time-to-give-socialism-a-try/2018/03/06/c603a1b6-2164-11e8-86f6-54bfff693d2b_story.html …

"Marxism" has a definition and saying that a conservative Catholic who believes the Church is the custodian of timeless verities qualifies is stretching the definition way beyond any useful meaning Like sure if "Marxism" means "wants healthcare" whatever

M-L is an umbrella term for that political spectrum. Now if you say her socialism extends only to health care, fine. I doubt it does though.

It really isn't, and "Marxism-Leninism" especially has a much more specific meaning than just "Marxism" (which in turn is not just some synonym for "socialism" or "redistributism")
