Yeah but I think if I was without kids, I would be bonding with ppl my age or similar, not looking for child substitutes. My point being, I hate the "not dying alone" excuse 1) no guarantee they will be there & 2) I don't want to burden my children.

Sure, but his point is that, when you're old and dying, they'll all be old and dying too. That's something he's accepted for himself, and pretending it's not a thing does no-one any favors.
