Yeah so apparently your gender dysphoria is still "rapid-onset" unless you let us SEE the slow, gradual process of coming to terms with your identity IN PUBLIC The celebrity paparazzi version of "No credit unless you show your work" https://twitter.com/ParkerMolloy/status/1372533605331828739 …

He was playing butch/masculine women from the beginning of his career, and its especially noticeable starting hard candy. Sure there’s a few exceptions but even Juno is hardly a model of feminity.

Not that matters but like Page coming out as a trans man was not a huge surprise.

Yes! When it happened I was like oh yeah that checks out, just like in hindsight that was a very obvious progression as someone who has been kind of a long term fan and also as a trans person. But cis people don’t understand the nuance so they just see what they want to see

A huge percentage of this dishonest pushback is because it DIDN'T come out of nowhere, because it's fucking obvious that a lot of people get read as "butch lesbians" before coming out as trans men, and some people see this as extremely threatening

Just like the utterly absurd freakout over Eddie Izzard officially transitioning "Where did this come from?!" they ask, of someone who was onstage in a fucking sequined dress for forty fucking years

What it was, of course, was that they *actively wanted* people to publicly progress toward finally transitioning and then *stop* They wanted that barrier to stay in place before the last step People outright said they used to find Izzard "reassuring" because of this fact

"You can be butch without literally being a man!" "You can wear makeup and sequins and high heels without actually saying you're a woman!" Well yeah of course you can, you can do anything you want But you don't, you know, HAVE TO

It's extremely reminiscent of my old Christian milieu and their weird almost obsessive interest in "close platonic same-sex friendship" They would cling HARD to examples of "life partners" who hadn't come out and be like "You don't have to have gay sex to love another man!"

Well yeah of course you don't, you don't have to do anything But sorry to burst your bubble Karen but most of the time when two men have lived together for 20 years they're doin' it Doin' it isn't universally popular among humans but it's pretty fuckin' common

And so yeah -- clothes and makeup and whatnot aren't INHERENTLY gendered, they aren't inherently anything But seriously if you think someone born and raised in this culture as much as you or I was never "means anything gendered by it" when they dress "GNC", wake the fuck up
