I guess to be more precise about this, a lot of 1st-gen immigrants, even ones who are fluent in English, still have a trace of an accent And a lot of 1st- and 2nd-gen people who grew up in ESL communities have this telltale "overprecision" of speech

My Korean-American friends in high school and college were mostly 2nd gen and some (or their siblings) had that articulated pronunciation you're referring to. It's a bit like certain people Ive met who learned English in a foreign boarding school. Like, more perfect.
