I was rewatching Babylon 5 last night, which takes place in 2258. And I can’t stop thinking about how much I thought we’d definitely be out there in space living the sci-fi dream in 200 years when I was a kid watching this, & how now I…kind of think we won’t.

Like this is a world where they made all the rational, sensible decisions on a realistic timeline to deal with the climate apocalypse but it still happened (The realistic timeline for making decisions to *prevent* the apocalypse is already in our past irl)

Right? Climate change happened and changed things massively, big die-off - but humans actually survived and went to the stars. It's not awesome, but it's not Mad Max. And that seems wildly optimistic some days.
