Well he can either: pay himself more to buy the trip himself, with a shit ton of money going to the federal government or - expense the trip through the company, have less taxable income at the end of the quarter, getting a double whammy of not paying big brother

No it's not. It's a business trip. You'd be surprised what a company can count as business expenses. All he'd have to say is it was a team building trip (doesn't matter that he's the only employee) or justify some event occurring in the general time frame as being work related
