Wait isn't gen x the offspring of the silent generation, In-between "Greatest" generation WW2 vets and Boomers?

And like anecdotally this is what Gen X thought of their own childhood culture they grew up with Everything sold to them was either obviously cheap stupid crap or it was Boomers in their 20s and 30s yelling at them about how much cooler being a teenager was in the 60s

The actual literal children also (a) don’t have a lot of disposable income, and (b) have parents who likely don’t have much disposable income either because they’re millennials paying off student loans, blocked from going up the ladder at work, unable to find affordable housing.
-
Boomer parents of millennial kids had more disposable income because they’d paid their college tuition with a part time job, starter homes existed, and you could still get a job out of college that paid enough to start a family. So there was more money in marketing to kids then.

That one is weird since Hasbro largely stopped marketing to the adult demographic around 2015 (That boom was 2012-2015 or so) but the adult fans definitely kept it alive for 9 seasons. Then again, something to be said for that much free advertising.

Honestly though I'd say it's as much about 'A bunch of people in that age range wanted something wholesome to cling to, and MLP provided that first'. Then there's the confluence of factors that made it memeable. Humans are weird.
