Yeah, but honestly at this point it's kinda inescapable, largely because very few vampire works actually leverage the horror of overt vampirism. Vampires are usually evil because they're effeminate elites who are here to corrupt your women, not because they're violent.

The actual blood-drinking part of vampirism is VERY RARELY part of why any given vampire portrayal is coded as evil, it's all the "wicked elite" signifiers which people associate with Judaism bc of the conditional ultrawhiteness of (largely) Ashkenazi Jews.

Vampires are, if a metaphor for anything, a metaphor for plagues. The old stories generally are about peasants who got sick suddenly and died and then all their relatives started dying too.

And sure xenophobia is in there too: Dracula is explicitly the scary foreigner. But also his assaults on Lucy are, in addition to being sexual, are very obviously *consumptive* in a way that is very similar to traditional "wasting illnesses" like tuberculosis or cancer.
