It's a weird feeling, with the smash hit success of Black Panther as a film franchise and the fading of X-Men with Fox's screw-ups, to finally live in a world where "vibranium" is a more famous imaginary metal than "adamantium"

Just tested this on my partner. Me: “When I say ‘vibranium’ what do you think of?” Her: “Black Panther. Captain America’s shield.” Me: “When I say ‘adamantium’ what do you think of?” Her: “Nothing. What does that mean?”

What it mostly means to me is the 3e magic item Daern's Instant Fortress, which was made of adamantium, which was rather costly as a metal. So costly, in fact, that the fortress was worth more in scrap than it cost to buy.

Yeah a lot of people pointed out that if a dungeon has adamantine gates you can make a fortune just carefully taking the gates off their hinges and selling them without actually entering the fortress proper

Marvel at least explicitly included the thing where once adamantium is created it can't be reshaped so there's no resale market
