They'd call it Barclay Syndrome. We would all have it and no one would care, except for a few religious folks who'd repopulate the earth after we're gone and they'd ban the technology.https://twitter.com/slug_neon/status/1370529756630765571 …

There was an article saying that marriage and birth rates were way down and unemployment/underemployment up and the reason might be that video games are good enough and cheap enough that they're enough to satisfy way more people

Sounds to me that there's a good chance this is true, the people in question are being completely rational, and it's a problem with the world and not with them or video games

Yep. But I doubt that's the actual reason for the birth rate decrease. Birth rates plummet when 1) women have economic freedom (they can financially support themselves and leave home w/o marriage) 2) they have reproductive health access (even if JUST birth control)

The usual response to this is that survey-reported desired births among women consistently exceed actual births But, you know, that's kind of the problem with surveys

And even if this is accurate, and their proposed explanation based on anecdotal evidence -- women want more kids but can't find male partners willing to be a dad early enough -- is completely true... so the fuck what

For all the deserved dunking on "manchildren" on here I legitimately am very defensive about this it's not some guy out there's social and moral duty to make himself into husband material or father material if he doesn't want to be

Any more than it's women's duty to make themselves into wife material and mother material
