AITA for making a fake stock portfolio for my wife? https://bit.ly/30AGsYW pic.twitter.com/rpUkqKb7E1
ESH (although I am very confused how she would not know it was a simulation, I don't know of any fake stock trading sites where it isn't obvious). Wife sucks for not knowing her own limitations, husband sucks for telling an elaborate lie instead of just saying no.
ESH as written, but he sucks more and he doesn't seem like a reliable narrator.
And, actually, even as-written, I think he's probably TA. Because buying the stocks that he *actually bought* was not a good financial decision, and he really doesn't sound like someone who actually makes good decisions about money.
He doesn't say how the stocks he bought actually did, and I think that's all kinds of telling. If he sunk money into that account that they couldn't afford to lose, he's incredibly irresponsible (even if he got lucky). And...
If he bought individual stocks for anything but funsies I (and John Bogle) question his financial judgment.
I'm an anti-stock-picker/Boglehead too but this is speaking way too broadly "Picking stocks" in the sense of picking ten well-regarded high-value stocks is suboptimal compared to an index fund but it's nothing at all like penny stock investing
It's not like 30 years ago or whatever before index fund investing became common that meant it was objectively true all investing was mere gambling and no stock advice was better than any other
