German bigwigs in the EU see this as giving them not only permission but the DUTY to push tight money policies, to benefit their citizens at the Greeks' expense They feel no moral conflict over this

And yet the EU has clearly fostered a significant part of the populace who self identify as Europeans, especially younger folks, and have a very cosmopolitan world view. In a lot of ways the EU's leadership using it for the benefit of certain states betrayed its supporters?
