Most complaints I've seen around Copyright have less to do with the paying people for work, and more to do with the proactive enforcement media platforms like YouTube and Twitch use, ostensibly to avoid potential legal issues. Is that Patent stuff I've got the wrong word for?

Seems like a fair use issue to me.

Most aggravating argument I've had on this hellsite in quite some time about this bullshit. Apparently IP shouldn't exist because then we could all make Marvel movies and Star Wars EU books and that'd be a new golden age of creativity, or something.

I'm slowly saving up thousands so I can afford editing, proofreading, cover design etc on my next project because I believe in it and want to do it right...

I mean, i complain about copyright because no, it absolutely should not last longer than the life of the author.

That seems not right to me. If I get hit by a bus tomorrow, it wouldn't make it OK for some unscrupulous corporation to swoop in and make a movie out of one of my stories (not that they would, but you know).

The core of my position is that I just want the copyright of a work created at my birth to expire before I do. I ask this in all sincerity: Is that an unreasonable position?
