Look I KNOW the MCU contains military propaganda, I just wanna watch flying people shoot lasers at each other Talk about it all you want but don't act like it's some huge moral failing to still enjoy this stuff, ffs

Also "some of the films have Pentagon involvement, Captain Marvel and Iron Man being particularly bad" has evolved into "the entire MCU is military propaganda, up to Black Panther being pro CIA despite explicitly linking the main villain's cruelty and destruction to CIA training"

It is a valid criticism but at a certain point you have to recognise that most of the time the MCU has a mildly negative view of militarism and that Pentagon script approval is less about making individual films propaganda and tilting the wider film industry in their favour

Doesn’t most of it boil down to copyright? Like they had to use a bunch of non standard vehicles in Avengers because the pentagon said no-go on the 3rd act nuke?

No, they couldn't depict actual military response. That's why you only see cops and SHIELD. I forget why the Pentagon said no

I looked it up and it’s hilariously dumb. “The Defense Department didn't think a movie about superheroes, Norse Gods and intergalactic invasions was sufficiently realistic in its treatment of military bureaucracy.”

Tbf it's a depiction of a government unilaterally deciding to nuke NY

Oh yeah, but wasn't the problem that SHIELD was multinational? I vaguely remember something about how they didn't want the US military to be "subordinate" to SHIELD because of that

Right, the world of Avengers 1 was basically one where that tyrannical one-world government the John Birchers are afraid of already exists and can just nuke Americans whenever
