It does bug me that while Wanda is a very Slavic name (of Polish origin), Pietro is a very Romance-language way to say "Peter" (irl you mostly see it as an Italian name) and his name should most likely be "Piotr"

They didn't say what country they were from originally, just that they were of Romani descent Eventually I think they settled on Serbia

Peter Maximoff's backstory in Days of Future Past turns this into a grittier, more grounded deadbeat dad story than the whole stolen-babies-sent-into-foster-system thing But it's still intrinsic to the dynamic that Magneto never knew them and was only a biological father
