I really don't understand what they think money is or why they think money exists. Adding 'true scarcity' to something that is, in fact, the representation of productive force within society is just a terrible fucking idea.

6/ In reality, 4.3 billion people across 95 countries (53% of the world's population) live under authoritarian regimes where there is only tyrannical (not democratic) oversight of money. Bitcoin allows people to escape these systems and take their finances into their own hands.

My ability to understand the basic concept of what money is for and identify why bitcoin is fucked when it comes to fulfilling that role? It's the definition of overengineering a solution so hard you forget what the problem was.

What is "the basic concept" of money? If bitcoin is so bad at it, why is it winning?

Money is debt owed by society to individuals for the value their labour or goods create. Bitcoin is bad money because its value fluctuates too wildly. It is bad if yesterday my labour earned enough to pay a day’s bills, but today it earned enough to pay a week’s.

"its value fluctuates too wildly" The Internet was volatile in its early years. A growing tree fluctuates. If you want stability, stick with dead trees and Encyclopedia Britannica.

It is not that *I* want stability. It is that a money is only useful if it is stable. It is much of the point of money. And since you just agreed Bitcoin is volatile, you agree it is bad money. You may believe someday it will be good money, but it definitely isn’t, right now.

I understand Bitcoin primarily as protocol, not as currency. In that regard, the currency is a trojan horse. Here we are, discussing protocol adoption without realising TCP/IP was the unstoppable invention.

Then maybe you should find something actually useful to do with that protocol rather than telling people to put money into the Ponzi scheme that currently runs on it, as though those two things are in any way connected
