Well the thing is if you really think about it it's not that much sillier than aliens at all

it isn't much sillier than humanoid aliens, probably.

i would sort of love to do a setting where there actually is a universal body plan all life trends towards and it's crab humanity is regarded as this weird and horrifying outlier with nightmarish biology "you mean it all just GROWS BACK!?"

we're regarded like walking organ sacks with unholy regenerative properties; the very idea of organ transplants is just evidence that we're all really one porously fleshy entity they all just think we're shoggoths

I always hate that aliens have extra powers we don't have. I want a show where the aliens are mystified by our extrasensory powers of smell! "How can you possibly tell that milk went bad?!?"

I loved this RPG setting Out of the Violent Planet About how it turns out that humans are the only sapient species in the galaxy that doesn't have psychic powers of any kind And are therefore also immune to psychic powers Which makes us incomprehensible and terrifying

The aliens genuinely did not think this was possible, to be truly sapient and intelligent without any psychic presence is a contradiction of everything they previously knew about psychology It's a huge challenge for them to even communicate with us

And because they're all psychic all forms of conflict and warfare focus on psychic combat - on feeding false information to your enemies, puppeting their actions, editing their memories and personalities

Directly attacking and killing their enemies bodily is a horrifying, wasteful action, a huge taboo It almost never happens Their "weapons technology", as we would define it, is utterly nonexistent The way humans wage war shocks them to their core

We are the only species that fights and kills in meatspace, we are the experts on the concept, our whole history revolves around something they can barely conceptualize (just as to us this concept of a literal "war of ideas" to forcibly edit enemies into allies is an atrocity)

So we are, from any standpoint, incredibly dangerous, and only their having a huge head start with space travel protects them When they found out what we were they tried to genocide us the only way they knew how - blasting the whole planet with a max-strength kill command

This action, which to them was the equivalent of a last-ditch nuke, made the whole human race feel vaguely dizzy and nauseated for thirty seconds and made maybe 10,000 people worldwide die of stroke (the tiny minority of us who had a vague hint of psi potential)
