People always point at whatever is currently "normie popular" and go all Pepe Silva trying to tell you it's a psyop - meanwhile at the height of the Cold War the CIA wouldn't give Walt Disney the time of day but had a whole division for making Jackson Pollock "happen" 🤣 https://twitter.com/PostingJakeLLC/status/1366215863200845824 …

So, basically: American history bears out that you should be more suspicious of Pulitzer winning novels than airport novels...?

Most of the performative WandaVision haters don't even talk about what they actually DO like at all But when pushed they seem to reach for references to mid-20th century Modernist writers as genuinely insightful and artistic Which, ironically, *literally was* a "CIA psyop"

Not, like, a big or important one It's just that the government did in fact direct funding to stuff like the Iowa Writers Workshop to try to promote the part of the respectable American artistic community that wasn't saying overt communist stuff

I've talked about this before and I do not, in fact, actually think this makes the Iowa Writers Workshop or Frank Conroy *bad* It just flies in the face of a lot of stupid narratives people have (that ironically they inherited from radicals like Adorno)
